Overview

Packaging for a two-person operation that had to survive a supermarket shelf and a farmers market table.

01   Challenge

Salt & Stone make four products in small runs and sell them in two completely different contexts. Supermarket shelves reward contrast and legibility at three metres. Market tables reward craft you can see at thirty centimetres. Most packaging picks one and quietly loses the other.

02   Approach

The structure does the far-field work — a single flat colour field per product, unmistakable at distance — and the near-field work is carried by a hand-drawn illustration that only resolves when you pick it up. One plate, two inks, uncoated stock, no foil. The whole range prints on the same press setup, which is the only reason a two-person business can afford it.

03   Outcome

The range has been running unchanged for two years across both channels, and the print cost per unit came in under the previous single-channel packaging.
