Design system & component library
Vantage
Overview
A component library for a clinical product, where an ambiguous interface is a safety problem rather than a taste one.
01 Challenge
Vantage had four product teams shipping into the same clinical interface, and three different date pickers. In most products that is an annoyance. In a product where a clinician enters a dosage under time pressure, inconsistency is a risk, and the audit had said so in writing.
02 Approach
We treated accessibility and clinical safety as the same requirement, because in practice they are: unambiguous labelling, no colour-only state, targets that work with gloves on, and focus behaviour that survives a keyboard-only workflow. Every component shipped with its own decision record explaining what it is for and — more usefully — what it is not for.
03 Outcome
The library covers 94% of the interface surface across all four teams. The audit findings closed, and the date picker question has not been reopened.
